If you like aggressive snowboarding or skiing, shralping is just for you! The first-ever Shralp! ski and snowboard event is taking place today, 7th March at Eaglecrest Ski Area.

“It’s that ultimate slash, that perfect line,” Whiteman said of shralping. “It’s bouncing from snow pillows on cliffs and felled trees, the over-the-head powder on steep pitches. It’s just that pure, clean adrenaline rush. And then you can just claim it with your two fists in the air.” says Cherith Whiteman, coordinator of the event, about Shralping.

Winter Sports Gear

When it comes to sport equipment, there is always something new that comes. And it is not different for winter sports.

Because snowboard gets on popularity, ski designers have showed us Freeskis. They are shorter, have rounded front and rear tips so now it is possible to do the same tips and jumps as snowboarders.

What’s more, new boots attachments have been invented. Because ski boots are quite stiff, it’s now easier to walk with the new “kind of moon shape and […] rubber soles that gives a better grip”.

Using a single board on the snow may mean lots of falls and crashes. Hurts! Even if you wear proper gear such as helmet, wrist guards, padded shorts, beginning may still be painful.

Skiing seems to be much easier with the two skis and the two poles. You’ve got then four edges to master.

If your options on the ski slopes seem limited, there’s a Snowter, designed by German designers. They were looking to push beyond skis and snowboards in search to enjoy the slopes.

How does the Snowter look like? It’s like a seatless BMXwith two mini skis replacing the wheels. All you need to do is to split your feet between the front and rear pedals, then steer it with the handlebars at slow speeds, and dig the rear in to carve turns or drift it like you’re power-sliding once you’ve got some pace up.

Snow Biking

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Lots of people give up biking in winter when it snows. In the parts of the world where it snows heavily and the ground is covered with a good quantity of the white layer, people use snow boots or a sled to commute.

Is it possible to ride a bike when it’s freezing, icy and slippery?

Dan Casey lives in Virginia. He’s a keen cyclist who started snow biking about four years ago.
