Water Polo Success

Children from Rhondda Cynon Taff’s mini water polo team got the first success in playing outside of Wales. The young players won every single match they played in Torbay, Devon.

The team consists of Bradley Collins, Jude Owen, Megan Keywood, Ellen Goodfield, Adam Morris, Sean Williams, Ellie Davies, Shannon Griffiths, Ryan Jones, Thomas Williams, Nia Rees, Brandon Bull, Jacob Edwards and Calen Bradley.

Watersports Popularity

The success of British competitors in at the Olympics in Beijing, water sports have become even more popular in the country. The success has inspired many people.

The Low Wood Watersports Centre in Windermere offers training for both children and adults in watersports. The aim is to improve the skills and have lots of fun in the same time. “Britain has been particularly successful in the sailing, with golds for Ben Ainslie, Paul Goodison and the Yngling crew” said Paul Brown from the Centre.

Ladies Water Challenge

Marie Curie Cancer Care has called on the ladies from Suffolk to take part in the watersport challenge. The Cancer Care provides professional nursing service, free of charge, giving the chance for ill people to die at home supported by their families.

The Charity will be raising money in the fundraising event.

The women will be windsurfing and sailing for two hours and then canoe for one hour. There will be breaks in between.

A Sports Weekend In Culdaff

The events include 45 mile walk-cycle, Car Treasure Hunt, milk run, duck race, kayak and raft races for different age groups and much more.

Paddling: indoor vs outdoor

Water sports are a good form of staying fit and healthy. Paddling in the fresh air seems obviously a better idea but if the weather conditions are not convenient, indoor kayaking is a good replacement.

We’re going to compare both activities in terms of:
1. Cardio fitness: If you paddle indoor, there is a great chance of burning lots of calories (about 600 an hour) as 70% of your muscles are being used. Also your heart rate gets up.

Extreme Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing and kiteboarding are apparently the quickest growing water sports in the world.

Kitesurfing is composed of: windsurfing, wakeboarding and power kite flying. It’s not sure whether the sport was invented in France or Hawaii. Kitesurfing in Hawaii developed very fast because of the fantastic weather conditions and good wind. Also in the UK the sport is very well known. The large L shaped kites can be seen along many British coastlines.

If you are a boy or a girl aged 11 and over and want to join a water polo team at Melton Swimming Club, it’s the best time ever. The Malton Club is looking for the new players for their water polo section. The courses will take place at Waterfield Leisure Pools every alternate Sunday from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

Ellie Taylor - A Wakeboarding Talent

Wakeboarding consists on doing tricks and stunts while riding a wakeboard and being attached to a motor boat.

Ellie Taylor, 15, tried this sport two years ago when she was on holiday in Cyprus. And just four months later she fifth in last summer’s National Championships held in Sheffield.

Ellie has been qualified for the Junior Girls U15 section that takes part in June, 7 in Sheffield. She is also is this month’s recipient of the Wilts and Glos Sports Grant. That makes her life really busy: she is wakeboarding almost every day after school as well as at weekends.
