Montana State Snowboarding Championships

Friday, March 16th, 2007

This weekend sees that Montana State Snowboard Championships in America. It is the third year that this competition will be taking place at the Great Divide Ski Area.

On Saturday, competitors have to snowboard through an obstacle course and the fastest time down the course wins. Four competitors at a time race to the finish line so the races are always interesting. The end of the obstacle course involves flying across a pond with floating toys. Not all competitors make it to the end of the course due to the pond – it adds that element of surprise to the competition. The obstacle course races are taking place from 11am-2pm.

Rock Crawling

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Rock crawling is a relatively new extreme sport and the 7th World Rock Crawling Competition takes place on the 31st march and 1st April in Arizona, America.

Rock crawling is the ultimate test for driving skills: mentally tough for the driver and difficult for the spotter, as well as having to consider the ability of the vehicle. They have to drive round an obstacle course which has eight obstacles. The team with the lowest score wins, however, you get points if you have to reverse the vehicle, if you hit the marker cones and if you take too long to complete the course (you only have 10 minutes in which to complete the course)

Bud Light Rumble Snowboarding Championship

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Tomorrow is the start of the 9th Bud Light Rumble Championship at Stoneham Mountain Resort in Canada. The winner of the three events will win around £7,500.

All competitors will have to compete on a slopestyle course, a slalom race and a half-pipe event. The slalom event is similar to a cross country event where participants race against the clock through twists and turns. The slopestyle and half-pipe competitions require competitors to perform their best tricks whilst trying to incorporate height into their routines.

Choosing the correct kayak

Monday, February 26th, 2007

There are 3 different types of kayak you can choose from,
1) The rigid kayak normally made from plastic and the least expensive to buy.

2) Folding boats which are made from fabric which you stretch over a metal frame, these can then be folded which makes easier transportation, however, they are expensive to purchase initially.

3) Inflatable boats are portable and easy to store once it has dried off.

Summer fun

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

By Nigel Wilkinson, MD. BlueZeal.

With our normal blogger enjoying a well-earned break the update falls to me this week. Lots is happening in the great outdoors at the moment as the sun makes a belated appearance this summer. Rollerblades are flying out the door and it’s good to see so many of you making sure you are getting the protection pads at the same time. I’ve seen some real horrors which basic protection could avoid.

Skateboarding Joins the Curriculum

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

We wrote a blog on something along these lines a few months back, where an American teacher was organising after-school skateboarding lessons and clubs. But now it’s being taken one step further, with some schools actually implementing skateboarding as part of the P.E curriculum.

Richard Cendali at Douglass Elementary School in Colorado learnt to skate recently at the age of 60, and decided he was going to pass the skill on. The students pad up, and learn how to do grabs and jumps, turns and basic skateboarding in the school gym during P.E lessons.
