Surfing Dogs Take To The Waves

Have you ever seen a surfing dog? North Beach in Del Mar was the place where crowds of spectators had a chance to watch surfers with their wagging friends.

Some dogs wore one- or two-piece bathing suits, Hawaiian leis and brightly colored lifejackets. Some even wore goggles! Bandid, a Boston terrier owned by Mark Shaffer, wore a bandana and a blue doggie wetsuit.

International Surfing Day

The whole world celebrates the International Surfing Day today, on June 21. The aim is to raise awarness of the state of our oceans and beaches and help protect and preserve these areas. And to give thanks to Mother Nature.

“This is our day to celebrate the spirit and joy of surfing,” says Surfrider Foundation Executive Director Jim Moriarty. “International Surfing Day is also an opportunity for us to give back to the oceans, waves and beaches that bring so much into our lives.”

The waveriders will have a chance to share and acknowledge their mutual love of surfing, beach and ocean environments.

The twins - Amiya and Brodie Doyle - are the youngest competitors at the annual Malfunction Surf Festival at Rainbow Bay Beach on the Gold Coast.
The 13-year-old sisters have been riding their boards since they were three!

“They both stood up on their very first wave and walked along the board,” said dad, Martin Doyle.

Peru’s surfing queen nominated by U.S. awards show

Sofia Mulanovich, a peruvian surfer, was recently nominated by the organizers of the Premios Juventud 2007 Awards.
The awards ceremony will take place in Miami, July 19 and will award Latino celebrities from the realms of TV, music, sport and other entertainment.
Throughout her young cereer, the peruvian surfer has won numerous surfing events and she is nominated in the category of “Deportes de Alta Tension”.
Her competitors are: Lorena Ochoa (a Mexican female golfer), Maribel Dominiquez (a Mexican female soccer star) and Milko Duno (a venazuelan race car driver).

Heardworx Surfing Competition in Cornwall

The European’s biggest surf contest is going to take place from May5 until May7 in Cornwall, in Watergate Bay, near Newquay. The competition will feature surfing, bodyboarding, kneeboarding and longboarding across several age ranges.

Taking into consideration that the Ash brothers are taking part (one of which is the reigning champion), the event will be extremely exciting.

Because this year’s results effects selection for the English National Team for this June’s European Championship in France, all surfers will be aiming to impress.
