Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008Skateboarding is a very popular sport. When it first started out, the focus was on the structure of a skateboard. Nowadays however, the skateboard design and image seem the most important. There is no way of finding simple boards anymore.
Most boards are constructed with a seven-ply cross-laminated layup of Canadian maple. But if you prefer other materials such as bamboo, Kevlar, carbon fiber or aluminum, they might also be used. Decks are usually 7 to 10.5 inches wide but it may vary depending on the type of skater. For more stability wide decks should be used whereas street skaters usually use smaller boards. A usual skateboard is usually 28 and 33 inches long.
