Skates In-Line Marathons At The Young Age Of 63!

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Bob Bidon isn’t an average 63-year-old. He took up inline skating a year ago and skates in marathons!

His love to the skates started when his daughter-in-low sent him an information about the St. Paul In-line Marathon. And as Bob has always been very active, he decided to have a go.

Inline skaters roll up for Oceania champs

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

From 8 to 13 July there’s a festival for all inline skating fans and performers. The Oceania Inline Championship will take place in Brisbane.

Niall Ward and Jordan Ishigaki, Glendowie College students, are New Zealand’s representants whereas Zsuzsi Kercos-Magos will represent Hungary. All three have been skating since they were six.

Nial spends around 200 km a week cycling and 100 km skating. It is important as he builds up for races from the 200 metre time trial to a 42km marathon.

A storm in the world of rollerblading is coming!

The 23-year-ald organized the inaugural in Dubarton - the home of the UK’s biggest skate park. He now plans to repeat the event every year as a showpiece for the most talented rollerbladers.

Starting Out Skating Series, Pt2

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

This part of the series is all about Braking. Yes, I imagine as a new skater you’ve learnt how important this is already. The chances are, you aren’t going as fast as you’d like because you’re not so confident about being able to stop if you need to. There are two ways you can slow down and stop when you first start out. In later parts of this series we’ll look into some slightly more advanced methods too.
The two ways we’re going to look at here are the heel-stop and the snowplough…

Starting Out Skating Series, Pt1

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

We sell a lot of roller skates to seasoned skaters, ‘aggressive’ and highly skilled skaters. However we also provide skates to plenty of people setting out on wheels for the first time, and recently we posted some hints in our Winter Newsletter on important things to concentrate on when you start skating. We’re putting those hints here too, and we’re going to continue this in the Blog as a series of hints and ideas, which will progress on to simple tricks and excercises for developing skill.

RollerJam on UK TV

Friday, September 29th, 2006

We had a strangely ecstatic email recently, alerting us that Challenge TV will be showing Roller Derby (going by the name of RollerJam) at 7pm on weeknights, from October 2nd.

We tried to find a little information on the upcoming show on the Challenge TV website, but there was none to be found. In fact, we’ve never heard of Challenge TV, so we’ll just have to leave you all to work out how to pick it up! If any of you find the channel and catch the show, let us know what you think.

The UK’s Defficiency in Roller Sports

Monday, September 11th, 2006

I’ve been reading quite a bit about a real revival in Roller Derby in america recently - a sport that i can imagine alot of you first-time skaters finding a horrific idea. Not only do you have to learn to skate (on quads), but when you skate you have to compete against a team of elbow-shoving competitive fellow racers, who will do all they can to overtake you (or wipe you out, by the sounds of it!). It’s almost ice-hockey without the puck or stick… or speed skating with a sense of aggression.

Fun and Frolicks with Exeter’s Finest in Wheeled Sports

Monday, July 24th, 2006

By Pete Crewdson -Â Product Manager, BlueZealÂ

Tailwhip’s, Icepick’s, Peg Stall’s and Foot Plant’s… Don’t worry, those terms mean nothing to me as well, but watching them can be incredibly entertaining. This Sunday saw the first ever Oblivion Exe Games urban skate competition, taking place at Flowerpot Playing Fields and skate park in (unusually) sunny Exeter. Accompanied by some great music, inline skaters, BMXers and skateboarders took to the ramps to be in with the chance of winning some great prizes.
