Flowriding

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Flowriding is the newest form of bodyboarding and amazingly enough, you are not bodyboarding in the sea. Flowriding is a combination of surfing, skateboarding and bodyboarding and the first ever Flowriding competition was held in Australia last week.

Flowriders have to perform a variety of tricks on a thin sheet of rushing water which flows over a stationary form. The form gradually goes downhill and the idea is that you prevent yourself from reaching the bottom of the hill.

Bodyboarding basics

First things first, make sure that you have the correct equipment
1) Bodyboard
2) Wetsuit
3) Water shoes

Put on the wetsuit and water shoes and connect the bodyboard to your arm using the leash attached to the board.

Start by wading knee deep into the sea. Then place board in water and place yourself in the centre of the board and holding onto the top of the board with your hands.

1. The easiest way to get your legs into your wetsuit is to start by sitting on the floor and by putting your feet through first.

2. Once the wetsuit is over your feet, stand up and gradually using your fingers, starting at your ankles, pull the suit up in small sections. Ensure you pull up the back of the wetsuit, in sections, at the same time and continue doing this until the wetsuit is over your hips and comes comfortably high at the crutch.

05 British Bodyboard Championship Results

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

We reported before on the 2005 British Bodyboard Championships originally meant to take place at Fistral Beach, and now we’re back with the results.

The fight for the £1000 prize was served well by excellent waves, which reached a stormy 6ft at one point but were still very contestable. The open Final took place in Tolcarne Bay where the riders could catch up to 15 waves in the 25 minute heats. The weather forced the event to be moved to Tolcarne Bay, which proved to be an excellent decision.

2005 British Bodyboard Championships

The British Bodyboard championships are due to be held at Fistral beach in Newquay from the 1st to the 2nd of October.

However, with current weather predictions suggesting 12-15ft Swell and 15mph westerly winds, it is likely that the event could be moved to the Bay at either Tolcarne or Towan beach in Newquay Bay. This would enable the event to be run in clean surf.
