New Cycling Route In Southport
Southport has now a new cycling route, as part of “cycle town” status. The route has 2.2 km and goes from Esplanade to Fairways.
Phillip Darnton from Cycling England said: “I was very impressed with Southport, there is such a lovely feel to the town. I think that the place has developed so much since we last visited some years ago, and this new cycling route fits very well. It is not just something that Southport has decided to go for on a whim, it is something that fits in with its plans and aspirations as ‘England’s Classic Resort’. I think the people of Southport understand that our towns and streets belong to everybody, not just to cars or people who are travelling through. Our streets are places where people live, work and play.”
Southport is one of the other 11 towns that were successful in the bid for ‘Cycle Town’ status. New cycle routes are going to be open as well as re-allocation of road space and cycle training.
