Extreme Tracy
Tracy Moseley, 29, is a professional downhill mountain bike racer. She’s got a degree in biology but earns her life by riding her bike. Tracy is only one of the other women loving extreme sports. They usually do other things that shopping at the weekends: mountain biking, snowboarding, climbing…
July will be a good occasion for all extreme sports fans to go to Scotland as Dirty Weekend will take place there. “People want to grab their bike, throw it in the back of the car and get away for the weekend,” says Jim Mee, the event’s organiser. “These days adventure sports are much more accessible and have a much wider demographic.”
Scotland, with its wild weather and terrain, is a great place to take part in different extreme sports competitions. It’s Tracy’s favorite event as event though the traces are long and tough, she can enjoy beautiful views.
When Tracy started racing in the 1990s, she was one from only a few women competing in this domain. Now, the sport has really grown among ladies.
“I have seen lots more women come into the sport at a fun level,” says Moseley. “Trail courses are very popular, partly because you don’t need a map. They appeal to weekend warrior riders. They have the disposable income to spend on a nice bike and they can get away with their boyfriends or husbands. It’s when you take it to a competitive level that they all fall away. Women are just not as competitive as men.”
Some Dirty Weekend events:
~ Polaris Challenge - a two-day hunt for the checkpoints hidden in the mountains.
~ Rat Race - a team competition in the city.
