Sailing will be part of this year London Youth Games after five years of absence. Guy Malpas and Steve Mitchell from RYA have been working hard to bring this sport back to the games.

“There is very little opportunity in London for young sailors to race against other, so what better opportunity to pitch their skills and get a taste for competitive sailing than at London’s largest youth sporting event and what will prove to be the largest youth sailing regatta,” Guy said.

Over 100 London children will take part in the racing competitions which starts on Saturday, 7th June at London’s Royal Victoria Docks. The regatta will consist of five events:

~~ male and female Oppie Junior for the 9 to 12 years old
~~ male and female Pico Senior for the 12 to 17 years old
~~ mixed Pico for all ages

The organizers say the event proves it’s not necessary to live by the sea to go sailing. The event will be a fantastic opportunity for spotting new sailing talents. It is also a great way to introduce this sport to young people and keep them interested.
