Most parents don’t let their children cycling on the road as they are afraid about their safety. Tony Doyle, of Cycling England, advices the parents to be realistic about their children’s ability. Mr Doyle thinks cycling can be fun and fear shouldn’t interfere it.
“Given a good understanding of road safety, there is no reason why parents should fear for their child’s safety in the saddle and allow children to enjoy the immense benefits and pleasure of cycling.” Tony Doyle said.
Parents can take active part in making the kids safe. They should provide their children with lights, bright clothes and helmets.
Children form Redbridge get ready for the Bikeathon 2008. This year event is expecting to be bigger than ever. It starts on Sunday, June 15 in Valentines Park, Ilford.
Cllr Ronnie Barden, a cabinet member for leisure and culture is hoping the event attracts lots of children. The organizers are trying to get people interested in cycling and raise money for Leukaemia Research UK.
Mr Barden used to cycle a lot. He even took part in the sex-week cycling trip across France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Everyone who takes part in the event will get a medal and a goody bag. A school with most cyclists will get the Recorder Trophy.
