Ellie Taylor - A Wakeboarding Talent

Wakeboarding consists on doing tricks and stunts while riding a wakeboard and being attached to a motor boat.

Ellie Taylor, 15, tried this sport two years ago when she was on holiday in Cyprus. And just four months later she fifth in last summer’s National Championships held in Sheffield.

Ellie has been qualified for the Junior Girls U15 section that takes part in June, 7 in Sheffield. She is also is this month’s recipient of the Wilts and Glos Sports Grant. That makes her life really busy: she is wakeboarding almost every day after school as well as at weekends.

Wii Fit To Fight Obesity?

Obesity is a huge problem in recent years. Not only adults suffer from it but also more and more children and teenagers are obese. Nintendo has created an exercising video game that combines both: playing games and physical activity.

The product has four fitness activities:
1. Aerobic Exercise - a 10-minutes exercise that makes your heart pump quickly.
2. Muscle Conditioning - exercises for arms, legs and other parts of the body.
3. Yoga Poses - that focus on balance and stretches.
4. Balance Games - such as ski jumping or heading soccer balls for the overall body balance.

To do that you need a pair of rollerblades. In order to find an ideal pair, have a look in a few sports stores, compare different styles and prices. Choose your style.

The first thing to do is decide what type of skates you need: for speed, freestyle skating or fitness. Speed rollerblading is a professional sport. It’s even a part of the Olympics. If you want something less demanding, try fitness or recreational skates.

Bike To Work

A local organization in Vancouver, Canada, is trying to get 1.000 people choose bicycle instead of car or bus to get to work. The organizers aim to get people aware of the health benefits as well as environmental and lower costs.

The Bike to Work Week begins on Monday. Mia Kohout, the program director, also cycles to work. She started three years ago, after taking part in a similar event. “I hadn’t ridden my bike since I was a kid,” she said. “I tried it again and I loved it. I knew other people would love it too if they tried it.”

London Sailing

Sailing will be part of this year London Youth Games after five years of absence. Guy Malpas and Steve Mitchell from RYA have been working hard to bring this sport back to the games.

“There is very little opportunity in London for young sailors to race against other, so what better opportunity to pitch their skills and get a taste for competitive sailing than at London’s largest youth sporting event and what will prove to be the largest youth sailing regatta,” Guy said.

A Kayaking Star

Jamie Oughton, a 20-year-old student at Newcastle University, is a rising kayaking star. He’s had a great results in the kayaking championship and is hoping to get even better at this year wild water racing’s world cup.

Jamie’s received support from Newcastle law firm Ward Hadaway. The firm is involved in the Sport Newcastle Corporate Sponsorship programme that allows the athletes to get support from the local businesses.

Extreme Sports Festival in Liverpool

The festival (HUB) took place last weekend and attracted the amazing number of 23.000 people (compared to the 18.000 people from last year).

The event took place in Otterspool Park in Liverpool. It was possible to watch or participate in the activities, such as BMX rides, skateboarding, body popping and rollerblading. The event was accompanied by the urban art and music.

The Culture Comany established Liverpool the 2008 European City of Culture.
