Skateboarding has been known from about 1920s. At the beginning skateboards were just roller skates attached to a wooden board. The first wheels were made from steel so were very noisy and didn’t turn. Not until 1972 the urethane wheels were invented making the ride much smoother and faster. Also the boards looked different: it started being made from maple plywood.
The 29in boards are best for use in the streets, the 27in are better for stunts and the 30in - for vertical and downhill.
In 2002 there were over 18 million skateboarders in the world. The huge majority of all skateboarders are young males below 18 years old. They are usually great in jumping, riding rails and doing tricks on the ground. Going to the skate parks, they do tricks in the air - on a ramp.
The first trick to learn is an ollie. It makes it possible to fly forward through the air without grabbing the board. All other tricks are based around it.
Don’t forget about the protection gear, especially if you are a beginner.
