Mrs Loughborough, 64, and Mrs Brant, 63, are sisters who will try to complete a coast-tocoast cycling challenge. After Pat Craven, 66, who completed the course in 193 days, Mrs Loughborough and Mrs Brant will be the second and the third oldest ladies, if successful.
Val Loughborough was diagnosed with leukaemia three years ago and she needed a strong motivation after chemotherapy. Both sisters hope to complete 135 miles in one week. Their aim is also to raise money for Leukaemia Research and the haematology unit at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
“We are thinking of starting next weekend but, if it is nasty weather, we will delay it for a few days. We are just going to see how for far we go each day and not set any targets. We expect to do it in a week. When I came out of hospital I couldn’t do anything” Val Loughborough said. “I had to have my bedroom downstairs. To get myself motivated, I had to work towards something. I decided to do the coast to coast and realised I had to get fit for it.”
Good luck ladies!
