10 towns in the country will be awarded of the status of the Cycling Town. Their representatives will be invited for interviews at the end of May. What criteria need to be met? Obviously the towns must have secure facilities for cycling such as cyclepaths, crossing and parking facilities.

One of the towns that could get the award is Grantham. If the town is successful, it will get funds up to £10 per inhabitant.

“A key element will be to work with local schools to supply additional cycling training and to continue to develop school travel plans. That way we can encourage people to cycle, to not just reduce car travel, but also as apart of a healthier lifestyle.” said William Web, Lincolnshire County Council executive councillor.

The idea is to make our towns healthier and more balanced, by encouraging people to walk and cycle instead of using cars.
