In the late 1990s rollerblading was a hyper-popular activity. But even today, about 13 million people in the world rollerblade for fun and a fast workout. It’s a fantastic way to burn ample calories and tone your muscles.
“Skating makes you feel like you’re just floating. It’s such a great way to lift your moods while getting in some awesome exercise,” says Kalinda Bogue, director of marketing at Rollerblade.
Studies show that during one hour of rollerblading you can burn 840 calories. And Spring time is perfect for that…
If you need to buy a pair of skates, remember that they’ve changed over the past few years. They are lighter, more comfortable and perform better than the ones used many years ago. They’ve also got bigger wheels. Your ride is than smoother and more powerful. But if you prefer aggressive skating, you may want to stick to the small wheels that make quick and sharp turns possible. No matter the wheels sizes, your skates should be supportive, just like running shoes. They can’t be too roomy. Try them on and bend your knees mimicking skating. “When you do that, you should feel like your ankles are being supported without getting pinched, and that you can easily place two fingers in the back of the boot,” says Bogue.
No matter your experience, always wear protective gear. Knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards, as well as helmet are highly recommended. Once you’ve got it all, it’s time to have a go. Remember to stretch your main groups of muscles for about 10 minutes. Then, with your skates and gear on, keep warming up in a low speed skating. Then, skate at your own pace but before taking the skate off, cool down by skating slowly for about 5 minutes and stretch your muscles again.
