Keeping Fit Over 50s

The Antrim borough has something to offer to all over 50s who want to keep fit. From 3rd March until the end of April pilates classes are available (on Mondays) and then 6th March until 1st May people can join aerobic (on Thursday).

Ashley Whittley, Active Lifestyles officer, explains that pilates aims to build body strength and improves posture by repeating a series of exercises. It is a gentle way of keeping fit while being fun.

More and more divers are interested in freediving as they desire more extreme diving. The sport consists on depth diving while holding your breath.

Freediving fans, in order to introduce the activity to masses, are going to organize over 70 courses in 2008 and two camps in Greece and Abu Dhabi.

It seems to be a wonderful way of beating panic attacks, lose weight and just experience something amazing. Courses aim to teach how to breathe, underwater swimming techniques and general fitness.

If you like aggressive snowboarding or skiing, shralping is just for you! The first-ever Shralp! ski and snowboard event is taking place today, 7th March at Eaglecrest Ski Area.

“It’s that ultimate slash, that perfect line,” Whiteman said of shralping. “It’s bouncing from snow pillows on cliffs and felled trees, the over-the-head powder on steep pitches. It’s just that pure, clean adrenaline rush. And then you can just claim it with your two fists in the air.” says Cherith Whiteman, coordinator of the event, about Shralping.

Safe Cycling For Children

Cycling is a good activity that keeps your body and brain healthy. It also prevents obesity, especially amongst children. For those reasons primary schools in Antrim want their pupils get cycling training in year 2008.

The Department of the Environment’s Cycling Proficiency Scheme has been sponsored by the retail group Centra since 2004. The aim is to get more youngsters involved in cycling.

The researches show that the risk of cerebral vascular accident can be reduced by 40%, for both men and women, by the cardiorespiratory fitness. Dr Steven Hooker’s from South Carolina analysed the records of 60.000 men and women aged from 18 to 100. All the participants took part in the Aerobic Center Longitudinal Study.
