Gymnastics In Africa

The gymnasts from Shetland are visiting Zambia in southern Africa. The aim of the visit is to introduce gymnastics to the African children. They will experience it for the first time! The Shetland to Zambia Gym Project organized the trip with help of the African Impact organization.

Two groups of four gymnasts are heading: the first one in July and the second one in August.

“They plan to demonstrate skills mainly on the ground and then teach some of them to the local children from four schools in the area. A large balance beam is being constructed out of wood for the sessions and there may be some sessions organized for pre-school children as well.” said Mark Wylie, a chairman of Shetland Gymnastics Association.

Apart from teaching gymnastics, the plan is to bring goods donated by local firms and sponsors as well as prizes from fundraising events which will be organized soon.
