Greener Surfing

Surfing is surely a great sport, unfortunately in the production of surfboards and wetsuits toxic chemicals are being used. It means that modern surfing is not as green as it may seem.

This Summer there will be an exhibition at the Eden Project where the new eco-technologies to make surfing greener will be presented.

The exhibition “Ben Cook At Eden” runs from 7th June to 4th September. The event will take place thanks to fundings from the Arts Council England, South West.

“I want to raise awareness of ecological issues relevant to the surfing community through my work,” Ben Cook says.

During the exhibition the Pack 2008 will be presented where a renovated surfer’s VW camper van, old surfboards, old wetsuits and surfwax show the ways in which surfing’s toxic materials cause damage to the environment.

“Ben’s show is a great example of how the arts contribute to and raise debates about important issues that impact us all” said South West Executive Director Nick Capaldi.
