If you think a bout cycling, a warm pair of winter cycling gloves or a cycling training DVD seems to be a good idea. You can also think of a gift subscription to a triathlon magazine. Ski Maintenance & Care Tips

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

The most basic care for your skis is a good waxing. It’s time for waxing when the skis become slow and sticky on the mountain. Also if the base looks dry, rough or white near the edges. You can wax them on your own or you can have it done at a ski shop.

You also need to check the bindings to make sure they release properly. If you run your finger nail over a properly sharpened edge, it should take off a shaving of your fingernail.

Kite Buggying

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Have you ever seen people sitting in purpose-built vehicles powered by a traction kite? Well, this is an activity called “kite buggying”.

The vehicle is single-seated and has one sterable front wheel and two fixed rear wheels. The driver sits in the middle of the vehicle and accelerates and slows down by applying steering manoeuvres in coordination with flying manoeuvres of the kite. Skilled drivers are able to achievev the speed of around 110 km/h (70 mph)! Protective clothing, including a safety helmet, need to be worn.

It’s Risky And Exciting - Kitesurfing.

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

If the wind is right, kitesurfing can be “an extreme sports junkie’s dream catchall”. But to catch good wind you need to spend a lot of time monitoring the weather and wind reports. The ideal wind speed for kitesurfing is between 15 and 25 knots.

But in order to start this exciting sport, you’ll need some equipment.
1. You’ll need a kite. They are available in two forms: inflantable and foil kites, and in various sizes (from 7 square meters to 21 square meters). The larger the surface area, the more power the kite has.

Did you know that inline skating can burn as many calories as running or cycling? It’s also fun - providing you wear appropriate gear. It’s frightening but about two-thirds of all skaters don’t wear safety gear! That’s the reason of the most common face and head injuries.

The National Safety Council says that inline skaters should always wear a helmet, elbow and knee pads, light gloves, and wrist guards.
