City Set For Lite Youth Sailing Event

More than 500 Britain’s most talented young sailors are coming to Plymouth today for the National Youth Regatta. The event has been organised by Youth Sailing Club at the Mount Batten and will last until Friday, 27.

It will be the largest regattas ever seen in Plymouth.

Some of the young sailors at Plymouth are expected to represent Britain at the 2012 London Olympics.

“There will be about 30 trophies with classes in three different courses. There will be people of all abilities - we’ll be seeing the top young sailors who will be in the Olympic team and others who haven’t raced before.” - says David Williams of NSSA.

Spectators from the Hoe and Jennycliff will have the chance to watch the regatta as it will have race courses laid within the sheltered waters of the Sound. Competitors will sail a variety of dinghies including Lasers, Toppers and fast handicap boats.

The Surrey Cup, the Laser Radial Trophy and the Topper Trophy are the trophies on offer.

Good luck!
