Sailing is Amazing!
“Every weekend I go sailing at Lake Bowmoor” - says Ollie. He loves it but admits it’s not the easiest sport to learn.
He sails a small, one-person boat, called Optimist.
Sailing is a sport for children aged 7 to 15 years old.
“Every Sunday we have club racing. I came first twice last weekend which I was really proud of” - Ollie says.
250 boats take part in the Inland Championships. The top sailors then go on to represent Britain at the World Championships. And Ollie hopes to represent Britain one day.
All the sailors know that sailing is not just sitting in the boat. You have to lean out to stop the boat from flipping over and keep it balanced. And if you happen to flip over, you have to climb on top of the boat, and pull it back over which is really hard.
