Kayaking gains popularity

Kayaking is a great sport in which almost all muscles group are involved. Popularity of this activity has recently grown significantly in Finland. Most of the summer’s kayak courses in the south of the country have been already booked!

Merimelojat is a paddling club next to the Rowing Stadium. Beginning courses for adults are booked solid in the spring each year.

Thursday was a day when young kayakers exercised underway. The course lasted three days and on the final one the kayaks glide already over the waves.

Sailing against all odds

The 1st of July is going to be a Big Day for an unusual sailing crew. The three men have just three hands and three feet between them!

They are hoping to complete their North Sea Yacht Race after two or three days which is one of the longest and most challenging races in Northern Europe.

The men are heading off from the Norwegian port of Stavanger and finish in Macduff, in Scotland.

PUMA Sports India Limited launches French 77

A new range of summer collection - French 77 - has just been launched by a leading Sports Lifestyle company, Puma Sports.

The new collection recaptures the style of 1977 - vintage with a strong retro flavor. Its aim is to reintroduce the 1970’s tennis player, Guilemo Vilas. He was the one to surprise the world by winning both the US and the French titles. He won 17 of 33 tournaments and is remembered as the one who lost just 14 matches amongst 145 played.

Inline skaters roll up for Oceania champs

From 8 to 13 July there’s a festival for all inline skating fans and performers. The Oceania Inline Championship will take place in Brisbane.

Niall Ward and Jordan Ishigaki, Glendowie College students, are New Zealand’s representants whereas Zsuzsi Kercos-Magos will represent Hungary. All three have been skating since they were six.

Nial spends around 200 km a week cycling and 100 km skating. It is important as he builds up for races from the 200 metre time trial to a 42km marathon.

Broads Set For Water Skiing Zones

Can you imagine that in 1998 Broads Activity members banned water skiing as an innapropriate acivity?

Now, after an almost 10-year ban, the future of the sport looks much brighter. It has been recommended that water skiing should be allowed in 10 specified zones on the River Yare and Waveney in the Southern Broads.

The Broads Forum will have a special meeting about the issue on June 29 with 50 interest groups and a decision will then be made.

SWIMMING: Verdon sets British record

A 13-year-old Matthew Verdon of Warrington Swimming Club set a British record time during the ASA North West Regional Age Group Championships. He swam the 100m backstroke in 1min 1.71secs. The previous record had been set in December 2005 and was 1min 1.91secs.

In the group of 14-year-olds, Tim Almond broke his personal record in 100 metres breaststroke in 1min 8.84secs and won gold.

Kayaking With A Dog?

If you’ve got a dog and he likes to be with you almost everywhere, now you can take him even when you go kayaking. Assuming, of course, that it’s not going to be running whitewater or taking him from island to island in the ocean.

New Face of Sunreef 92′ Sailing Catamaran

A new model Sunreef 92′ Sailing Catamaran has been presented in Gdansk, Poland, by Sunreef Yachts, a luxury boatbuilder.

Sunreef Yachts is working on extending its range. Length of units start at 60 feet and go up to 150 or more (the first designs of 170′ and 200 footer are being made).
