Plans to bring canoeing back to the Lagan

Last week the City Council’s Leisure Services Committee met the representatives of the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland and the Lagan Corridor Programme Manager. One of the major topics was to re-introduce canoeing on the River Lagan at Glenmore Activity Centre.
The Canoe Association’s aim was to have access to the Lagan River and they got a temporary permission. This enables a safe storage of the canoes and faciliates a secure area for their two trailers.
What’s more, the Association will provide opportunities for local people to get more involved in canoeing on the Lagan.
“It would be interested in seeing how this would operate for the current year and to continue depending on level of uptake and success,” said Robert McKnight, Assistant Director of Leisure Services.
