Run, walk, skate and visit Sunday on Inner Loop

Forget about your car and public means of transport this Sunday. If you like walking, take your walking shoes; if you’re a jogging fan, grab your running shoes; you can aslo take your rollerblades if you like.

Sunday is the first of four Summer Loop days in July during which the city willl close the traffic for recreation. The program consists of running from 8a.m. until 2p.m. and will be the same for all other Sundays of July.

British Water Skiing Bosses Make Final Preparations For Burnham Event

Preparations for the return of UK’s water skiing championships to the resort in August are just being held. Water ski racing bosses visited Burnham-On-Sea last Wednesday.

UK’s top water skiers will take part in several races on August 5 during Burnham’s regatta after a 10-years absence.

“We are looking forward to returning to Burnham. Everything is coming together really well” said Tony Williams, British team captain. “We’ve run through the programme of racing and seen the seafront and the bay and it all looks good”.

Canoeing To Work?

Brett Governanti, an American, likes new challenges. At the beginning, he rode his bicycle from Mills (Wyoming), where he lives, to get to work to Casper. But one day he felt like trying something else. Encouraged by the City’s Coordinators, he canoed with his co-worker, Danielle Armstrong.

Canoe Trail To Be Launched

Are you a canoeing fan? A leaflet with the information in the Ullswater area has just been produced as part of a Lottery funded project, Discover Eden.

The leaflet is called the Ullswater Canoe Trail and it will give information where to hire canoes, about park vehicles and launch boats.

The leaflet is coming out this Sunday and a canoe race will be organized to celebrate! If you’d like to take part, come at midday to Outward Bound, Ullswater.

National water skiing event at Weston

On Sunday, July 22 the National Water Ski Racing Championship will take place in Weston.

The competition starts at 10am and about 30 boats will be competing in two races. The first race, the main one, will last for about 50 minutes. Whereas the second one will be shorter and will probably last for 35 minutes.

The events will be run by Weston Bay Watersports Club in conjunction with North Somerset Council, Redrow Homes, Seymour Roofing, The Cabot Bars, Pavilion Bar and the British Water Ski.

International Surfing Day

The whole world celebrates the International Surfing Day today, on June 21. The aim is to raise awarness of the state of our oceans and beaches and help protect and preserve these areas. And to give thanks to Mother Nature.

“This is our day to celebrate the spirit and joy of surfing,” says Surfrider Foundation Executive Director Jim Moriarty. “International Surfing Day is also an opportunity for us to give back to the oceans, waves and beaches that bring so much into our lives.”

Plans to bring canoeing back to the Lagan

Last week the City Council’s Leisure Services Committee met the representatives of the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland and the Lagan Corridor Programme Manager. One of the major topics was to re-introduce canoeing on the River Lagan at Glenmore Activity Centre.

The Canoe Association’s aim was to have access to the Lagan River and they got a temporary permission. This enables a safe storage of the canoes and faciliates a secure area for their two trailers.
