English Skateboarder makes final preparations for 4000km Charity skate across Europe

In less than six weeks time Sam Benson begins his ten weeks-long journey across Europe. He’s going to pass 4000 km through five different countries to raise money for three children’s charities.

Sam is leaving on 1 July from Queen Street and will travel along the South coast of England to Folkestone in the first week. Then he’ll skate to Calais through the English Tunnel. In Paris he’ll be joined by Adam Colten. They’ll go to Switzerland, then to Italy and then back over to Marseille in France. From Marseille they will skate across the Pyrenees into Barcelona in Spain. Finally they will travel through Valencia and Madrid to make the final leg of their journey to Santander, on the 15th of September.

“Link Community Development”, “The Lowe Syndrome Trust”, and “Sailability Australia” are the charities Sam is skating for.

Sam will be supported by his friends: Tom Fletcher, Chris Morris and Tom Walker. They’ll drive the support car, film the whole event and map the route.

Having a lot of sponsors providing him skate shoes, sunglasses, headwear and other equipment, means Sam will be able to concentrate on his skateboarding.

BeatsWalkinEurope is preparing to create a DVD of the journey, whereas Owen Platt, a ghost writer, is going to write and publish accounts of the BWE team as a book. All this to continue raising money and awareness after the event. The profits will be donated in full to the above charities.

The whole initiative is also to promote sports to youngsters of all ages and to encourage a ‘no-limits’ attitude to the lives of people everywhere.
