Possible elimination of the Super G
The International Ski Federation is considering removing the Super G events from the World Cup Skiing Competition. They feel that the skiing competition is currently too long and would like to remove the Super G to shorten the competition.
The Super G was introduced in 1982 and involves competitors racing downhill whilst going through the gates and it has been popular ever since. The Super G is also in the Olympics and competitors fear that if the Super G is dropped from the World Cup Skiing Competition, that it will also be dropped from the Olympics.
A special committee will decide the future of the Super G in May.
