Bodyboarding basics

First things first, make sure that you have the correct equipment
1) Bodyboard
2) Wetsuit
3) Water shoes

Put on the wetsuit and water shoes and connect the bodyboard to your arm using the leash attached to the board.

Start by wading knee deep into the sea. Then place board in water and place yourself in the centre of the board and holding onto the top of the board with your hands.

Then kick your feet to start moving away from the shore. To avoid the waves you can do something called a ‘duck dive’. When done correctly, you should be able to dive under the waves whilst still moving away from the shore. Push the nose of the board under the water and using all your body weight, dive under whilst keeping the board under you. When you resurface the wave should have passed. Timing is crucial for the ‘duck dive’ and only practise will tell you when to dive.

Finally, when you are far enough away from the shore, wait for a wave and just as it approaches, turn the body board towards the beach and let the wave take you into the shore.

Bluezeal sell bodyboards and a wide range of wetsuits.
