Ash Bags Cash At The British Junior Surfing Championships

With a combination of skill and local knowledge Reubyn Ash has won the 2005 Billabong British Junior Surfing Championships at Widemouth Bay in Bude in solid 4ft surf.
Sponsored by Billabong and North Cornwall District Council and organised by the British Surfing Association this years British Junior Surfing Championships attracted a record 150 entrants from all over Britain. Surfers competed for 6 British Titles: the under 12 division in which Tom Good picked up a set wave and showed experience beyond his years to secure the title.
In the Under 14’s division last years title holder Stuart Campbell proved he’s is still the Champion by winning every heat of the day.
Tom Butler surfed well to win the under 16’s, but lost his momentum in the in the under 18 division where Reubyn Ash impressed the judges with a display of powerful, radical manoeuvres.
Standout performances of the weekend came from the Welsh Women who dominated the girls divisions – especially 14 year old Welsh Women’s Champion Gwen Spurlock who took the Under 14 and Under 18 Girls titles, beating her close friends and rivals Kate and Jemma Dendle and Beth Mason who made the quarter finals of the boys Under 16’s.
